If you like to travel or spend a lot of time in the car commuting, then this is for you!
It can be so much fun hopping in the car and driving off to somewhere new. Whether it’s a weekend away, a long vacation, or a simple commute to and from work, food cravings can happen! But don’t worry, we have you covered! Today we are sharing our favorite go-to snacks that we always pack with us when traveling.
Go Raw Snacks & Granola
These snacks and granola come in a variety of flavors and are made of all natural, healthy, whole food, ingredients! Our personal favorite is the cacao spirulina bites. We also love to take these hiking.
Snap peas are healthy, packed with fiber, and even have a little crunch! If you want to spoil yourself a little extra, you can opt to purchase the snap pea crisps. These are baked and lightly salted, but you feel like you are eating a crunchy potato chip. A word of caution though – it is way too easy to eat an entire bag of these bad boys in one sitting. I may or may not have done this a few times…
Kale yeah is right! This superfood is great for you and can help to keep you full longer due to its fiber content (we recently posted about all of the benefits of kale, as well as tips for preparing it – see here). That is why we love bringing kale chips with us when we travel. Depending on what you are doing, bringing a kale salad or smoothie is not always feasible, but kale chips are easy to grab and transport. Plus, you can find them flavored with different seasonings!
Freeze Dried/Dried/Fresh Fruit
Fresh fruit is always a great snack option! Our personal favorites are berries, bananas, and apples, just because they can be easier to transport. However, we sometimes chop up pineapple or watermelon, put it in to-go containers, and then we are all set! Additionally, brining dried or freeze-dried fruit is also great! It will ensure that your fruit does not spoil right away, and you will still have a heathy snack. Freeze dried fruit is also a great oatmeal topping!
We recently shared what Kombucha is and why we love it here. This drink is also great for road trips because it is a bubbly and refreshing drink that is great for your gut too!
Although we always like to make our own bars and cookies from the nutrition plan, if you have to purchase a bar, the Lara Bar is a great option! The reason why, is because if you flip a Lara Bar over and read the ingredients list, it is very straight forward. See what we mean below. Bars with additives and a long list of ingredients you cannot read are not going to be good for you, and can often times make you more hungry! So just be careful about what you purchase for a bar, and remember to opt for whole, real foods first when you can.
Cacao Goji Bites
These bad boys are so addicting! We purchase them at a local health food store, so you may not be able to find these exact ones. However, near the produce section of your local grocery or health food store, where the nuts, seeds, and dried fruits are, you can typically find raw snack bites likes these with cacao, nuts, goji, and even coconut and/or spirulina.
And of course, water!
Always bring water with you! And bring more than one bottle. It is important to stay hydrated as it is, but when traveling, depending on what you are doing and where you are going, you can become dehydrated more quickly. So drink away!
Helpful tip: For my previous job I used to travel for several months in a row. I would bring a cooler packed with these snacks and healthy salads and sandwiches that I would make at home before leaving. That way when I was on the road, I’d have a healthy option for a meal! It is also helpful to google a healthy food place before you travel, so that way you know exactly where to go and do not have to worry about searching for a place.
