Top 5 Ways to Bounce Back

With spring vacations and Easter festivities behind us, this time of year can sometimes feel like a little “slump.” Even if you stayed on track with workouts and clean eating, travel days and vacations can certainly throw you off of your normal routines (I swear our feet are still larger than normal after our 13 hours on a plane)! However, there are plenty of ways to help you reboot and reset, and to help you get ready for the warmer days of summer to come!

1.) Get your routine back. 

This may seem obvious, but even if you worked out on vacation every day, your routine and timing may have been different. To help you stay on track, try to resume your normal schedule as best as you can. Wake up early to get in a workout, drink your Fairburn Fuel, and eat a healthy and filling breakfast to kickstart every day!

2.) Drink water!

We always say this, and yet we cannot say it enough – please drink plenty of water! Aim to drink half of your body weight in ounces.

3.) Go for a walk. 

In addition to your workouts, make sure you get up and walk every day. Even if it is only for a couple of minutes at a time, just get up and move. Aim to get up from your desk every 1 to 2 hours to move too! Not only is this beneficial for you physically, but it can help to destress you mentally!

4.) Asparagus is your friend!

All veggies are your friend, but add asparagus as a side dish to a couple of  your meals to help remove excess salts that your body may be retaining. And in case you missed it, here are the other reasons why we love asparagus.

5.) Just 10 minutes a day.

Remember to take just 10 minutes a day for yourself to workout, meditate, and to just focus on your health and well-being! If you are able to get in more than 10 minutes – awesome – but if not, make sure you take advantage of the time that you do have!

How to Enjoy Christmas Dinner and Fairburn it Off

Are you ready for our big Fairburnin’ secret!? Well here it is…

 

We want you to enjoy your holiday dinner! And when we say enjoy, we mean that we want you to savor your favorite cookie or favorite pasta dish.  Remember, we are all about balance, so we don’t want you to feel guilty about enjoying the holidays with friends and family.  Of course, we don’t want you to mindlessly eat either, so here is how we incorporate balance and want you to approach the holiday:

1.) Workout first thing in the morning on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day! Even if it is one of our Quick HIIT Routines or a mile run, do something! When you workout first thing in the morning, you feel so much better and are less likely to feel guilty later on in the day.  David and I plan on doing our annual 3 mile run together, and will then be enjoying a nice Christmas brunch, complete with a mimosa.

2.) Double fist! This one is an homage to our college days, only instead of double fisting beer, we want you to drink water all day long! Even if you are drinking an adult beverage or some eggnog, make sure your other hand is holding a glass of water.

3.) Don’t eat just to eat – eat to enjoy! We all have our favorite holiday item that we look forward to – whether it’s your grandmother’s cookies, or your mother’s famous roast, – savor your food! Don’t use the holiday to mindlessly eat everything in sight.  This is your day to enjoy delicious foods, so go for your favorite items as opposed to just grabbing something because it’s in front of you.

4.) Say “No, thank you.” This can be the hardest one of all, but even this past Thanksgiving when some of our own family and friends were trying to put more food in front of us that we did not want, we said no. It can be very hard because often times friends and family do not understand our goals and what our health means to us, but that’s okay. We want you to remember why you started this journey in the first place and to not be afraid to say “no, thank you.” Saying no doesn’t mean you are a scrooge or starving yourself. It means you care about what you eat, or maybe you just truly are not in the mood, because you are no longer mindlessly eating!

5.) Focus on the positive and why you started. Ultimately, we do not want you to stress out! We want you to enjoy your holiday! Focus on the positives of the day, enjoy the moments with loved ones, and remember that you are in control and can continue to be successful, even if you have a cookie and some nog!
