…And don’t want you to either!

Picture this: You’re in the grocery store deciding on which product to buy.  The same product is made by a few different companies, so you immediately look at the labels to see how many calories are in each product.  One has 100 calories, the other 110 calories, and the third has 120.  You choose the 100 calorie product because less calories means it’s healthier right? Not exactly!

Sure, there are plenty of things out there that have little to no calories that are excellent for you – i.e. carrots, celery, blueberries, leafy greens, etc. – but there are also plenty of lower calorie items out there that are not as good for you! For example, let’s say you have a 100 calorie pack of mini crackers and a banana that has roughly 120 calories. Just going off of calories, the snack pack seems healthier.  However, when you look at the label of the snack pack, you’ll see a lot of sodium, artificial sweeteners, and loads of other ingredients that no one can pronounce! This is why we do not like counting calories or only looking at calories on labels.  It can be very deceiving! Especially when foods like avocados, which are so great for you, are around 235 calories!
